Our story
TFast’s digital-skills work grew from Kalyango Brian’s experience of learning computing with limited access to equipment.

Founder: Kalyango Brian, Uganda. Business: TFast Digital Agency, a Ugandan sole proprietor business name, started 18 September 2019. Base: Bulenga, Musoke Road, Uganda. Education: self-taught first, then online courses and certificates, then a Software Engineering graduation in 2024. Status: TFast is a business, not a charity, NGO or non-profit.
Where did the interest in computers begin?
It began with curiosity. From a young age I wanted to know how computers worked and what they could do. That was not easy to act on. Around 2005, computers and internet access in Uganda were limited, and nobody at home could teach me.
How did I learn without a teacher?
By doing. I searched the internet, mostly through Yahoo, tried things on the computers I could reach, made mistakes and fixed them. In those early years I had no personal mentor, so most of what I knew came from practice and persistence. I learned a lot from developers online who shared their code, their bugs and how they fixed them, and then I tried it myself: build, test, break, debug, fix and try again.
What came next?
As online learning became easier to reach, I took online courses and earned certificates, while working with real equipment and real problems. I also studied formally, and in 2024 I graduated in Software Engineering. Learning did not stop there, because technology keeps changing.
How did TFast start?
TFast Digital Agency began on 18 September 2019 as a Ugandan sole proprietor business. Today it designs and builds websites, mobile apps and custom software for businesses. You can see the work on the portfolio page and in the open-source projects.
Why this story matters for the Digital Skills Initiative
I had to find much of the path myself, and I want to make it easier for someone else. Talented young people in Uganda may face the same barriers I did: no computer to practise on, no reliable internet and nobody nearby to guide them. I don’t need to know where a curious child will end up before giving them a beginning. I cannot say what any one young person will become, but I can work to increase access and opportunity.
What would we like to provide?
As support is secured, we would like to offer laptops and desktop computers, accessories, internet data, digital learning resources, practical training, mentorship and hands-on experience. None of this is promised until it is actually secured, and we will say plainly what exists and what does not.
